Alumni ‘Return,’ Rally for CEU during Reunion

June 2, 2017

More than 300 alumni and friends gathered at CEU for the university’s first-ever on-campus reunion last month. Dubbed CEUreturn: Alumni Reception & Party, the May 13 event was both a celebration and show of solidarity with the university.

The event drew attendees from more than 44 countries worldwide and was the very first alumni reunion in university history to include attendees from every single graduating class, from 1992 to 2016. See photos and video.

Highlighting the evening was a powerful address by CEU President and Rector Michael Ignatieff, who lauded the alumni community and its support during the ongoing ‘LexCEU’ crisis.

“This is our home,” he said. “And nobody is going to push us out.”

Immediately following the president’s remarks, alumni donors were recognized via the presentation of a special plaque commemorating the $1million alumni campaign which closed last December.

The alumni reception that followed inside CEU’s Nador 13 gallery included live music, catering and refreshments and a special #istandwithCEU photo session before attendees left for the annual Spring Ball aboard the Europa riverboat.

The reunion was preceded by a special, invite-only President’s Reception to commemorate alumni philanthropy and unveil the rooftop Kharkiv Terrace, honoring the generosity of CEU alumnus and benefactor Konstantin Kurganov (LEGS ’94).

REUNION WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS

Things kicked off Thursday, May 11 with the start of the Alumni Impact Forum, which drew alumni leaders from around the world focused on supporting CEU’s global community. Later, more than 50 alumni got together for socializing, refreshments and stunning Danubian views from CEU’s rooftop terrace during the Welcome Evening.

Friday, May 12 was highlighted by day 2 of the Impact Forum, plus a special “Back to School” session and coffeehouse for School of Public Policy alumni, plus coffeehouse events for the Department of Legal Studies, CEU Business School and other academic units. Hours before Saturday’s main event, alumni were treated to their first guided tours of CEU’s new campus buildings.

These events speak to the strength and connectivity of the CEU alumni community. Thanks to all who made this year's Alumni Reunion Weekend memorable.
